How to Use the DNC List

Your Do-Not-Contact list records the phone numbers KaiCalls must never reach by voice, SMS, or both — and the system checks it automatically before any outreach goes out.

What It Does

The DNC (Do Not Call) List is a compliance tool for any business that does outbound calling or texting. When someone asks not to be contacted — or texts STOP, files a complaint, or must be excluded for a legal reason — you add them here. Before KaiCalls places an outbound call or sends an SMS, it checks this list and blocks the attempt if the number is listed for that channel.

  • Add numbers manually with a reason and optional notes
  • Import numbers in bulk when migrating from another system
  • Search existing DNC entries by phone number
  • Track whether an entry blocks SMS, voice, or both
  • Record reasons such as customer request, complaint, legal requirement, or a STOP keyword

How Scrubbing and Enforcement Work

Enforcement is automatic. Before an outbound voice call or SMS is sent, KaiCalls scrubs the destination number against your DNC list for the channel being used. If the number is blocked, the outreach does not go out.

  • Checks are channel-aware: a number blocked for SMS only can still receive a call, and vice versa, unless it is blocked for both.
  • DNC takes priority over consent — a listed number is blocked even if you have a consent record on file.
  • The list is scoped to your business, so your entries do not affect any other account.
  • Inbound calls and texts from the person are not blocked; the DNC list governs outreach that KaiCalls initiates.

Add a Number

  1. Go to Dashboard > Compliance > DNC List.
  2. Click Add or open the add-number dialog.
  3. Enter the phone number.
  4. Choose the reason and add notes if useful for future review.
  5. Choose whether to block SMS, voice, or both.
  6. Save the entry. Enforcement applies to outreach from that point on.

Import and Review

  1. Use the import action to upload a list of numbers when migrating from another system.
  2. Search by phone number when a customer asks about their status.
  3. Remove an entry only when you have a valid, documented reason to contact that person again.
Customer requests: If a customer asks not to be contacted, add them to the DNC list promptly and keep notes clear enough for future review. The list is a compliance record, not just a convenience.

FAQ & Troubleshooting

A number is on the list but still got contacted.

Confirm the entry covers the channel that was used — an SMS-only block does not stop a call. Check the number is stored in the same format and that the entry was saved before the outreach ran.

Does the DNC list block inbound calls and texts?

No. It governs outbound outreach that KaiCalls initiates. People on the list can still call or text you, and Kai will answer them normally.

Someone texted STOP — do I add them manually?

STOP is a recognized opt-out reason on the list. When in doubt, add the number with the STOP-keyword reason and notes so the record is clear.
